Service Gives Retailers Secure Payment Networks

Improving security and lowering the costs of electronic transactions are retailers' ultimate payment handling goals. New Edge Networks is helping companies achieve both.

Through a partnership with Chase Paymentech Solutions, New Edge, Vancouver, Wash., a wholly owned subsidiary of EarthLink, is helping retailers switch from dial-up telephone connections to faster broadband networks and gain end-to-end compliance with Payment Card Industry (PCI) security standards. Businesses such as gas stations whose PCI-compliant networks are powered by New Edge can use the new Chase Paymentech connections at no added cost.

"Private transport coupled with rock-solid data encryption is a strong deterrence to bankcard fraud" said Dan Moffat, president, New Edge. "This translates to increased transaction volume with peace of mind to merchants and their customers."

These connections save merchants the monthly communications charge for maintaining their own separate connections to payment processors. They also eliminate single points of failure at the merchants' host locations or corporate headquarters. The connections also ensure bankcard transactions leave the store and reach the payment processor privately, securely and quickly, bypassing use of the Internet.
